Baltimore, MD – July 25, 2009 – As a ceremony to honor the 150th anniversary of the Baltimore City Fire Department was getting underway in War Memorial Plaza on Firehouse Expo weekend, tones alerted BCFD units for a reported building fire in the 5900 block of Belair Road (Box 54-6) just after 4 p.m. Squad 54 and Truck 30, coming from quarters just a few blocks away, reported heavy fire in the rear of a single story commercial occupancy and began making an attack on the fire. Firefighters attempted an aggressive interior attack but as conditions worsened incident command ordered defensive operations and struck a second and third alarm. Multiple handlines and ladder pipes were used to extinguish the fire, which appeared to involve a building and several trailer structures.
